Mother's Day Contest

Congratulations to Andrea Mize!
Winner of the Mother's Day contest. She was nominated by her 16 year old daughter, Stevie Umsted.

Thanks to all who entered the contest, every mother is a winner.

Stevie Umsted's Submission:

Hello, my name is Stevie Umsted and I would like to nominate my mother Andrea Mize for The Giving Movement Mothers Day giveaway. My mother came home from work the other day and handed me an article for the giveaway from a newspaper she was reading. I suppose she decided to be sarcastic, but funny, and suggest I nominate her for the contest. I suppose she didn't believe I would take the time to do it. I want to nominate my mom for this contest in the hopes that it can make her a little happy for her 16th Mothers Day and show I really do care and love her so much, even though prizes cannot even begin to show my gratitude to her.
I wanted to nominate my mother because she has to be one of the strongest women I know, if not the strongest. She grew up with a simple lifestyle along with three other siblings, and continuously moved from state to state. She met my dad in highschool, if I remember correctly, and they fell in love, got married, and then later had me. My parents got a divorce when I was two years old and my mother single handedly had to raise me and make ends meet. She's been able to provide me with EVERYTHING I have, and give me a wonderful house and a life I'm proud of. My mother works so hard and so much, that I never really get to spend that much time with her or thank her enough because she's working to keep what we have and earn for what we want and need.
This passed Christmas, my mother had a brain aneurysm, having surgery two days after her arrival at Dallas Presbyterian, and then staying in the hospital until February. She then had to go into a rehabilitation center for the passed two months to understand how her brain would function. This whole ordeal has put her back so much at work with trying to earn money, pay bills, provide for her needs and mine, and pay the money she owes for her surgery and rehad. My mother has remained unmarried since her split with my father and was dating a man at the time of her surgery but now she is alone again and is having the hardest and most challenging time in her life right now to support our two-person family. I believe my mother deserves to win this contest because she is a strong woman, fighting by herself, and she should have a "reward" I guess you could say to show how thankful and lucky I am to have her in this world still. I don't know what else much there is to say but I want my mother to have the best now with all that she has put up with, including me, even though I can't give it to her myself. So I would like to try and make this contest the next best thing.
Thank you,
Stevie Umsted.

Mary L Harvey

This month The Giving Movement is delighted to shine the spotlight on Mary L. Harvey, former wife of comedian Steve Harvey.

When I met Mary, it seemed like an ordinary day but she made something “extra” ordinary happen.  Mary has had challenges in life, but she has a made a commitment to the people in the community, without the desire to talk about it for public gain.

She came to the Giving Boutique and I was impressed by her humbleness and open approach to life and love.  I knew she was deeply involved in philanthropy.  She knows what real happiness means.  She shared with me how much she enjoyed helping people, especially children.   As we laughed and talked she casually asked what was my dream for the Giving Boutique.  I continued to laugh and shared my story.

I took her two doors down to Minnie’s Food Pantry- that needed electrical work and repairs. Mary looked around and smiled and then asked me to follow her to her house.  I followed her in my car and I had so many random thoughts crossing my mind.  What happened next would go down in history as  the biggest  donation to the Giving  Movement.    Mary  took me into her closet and told me to get any pair of shoes I personally wanted.  It turns out that she and I wore the same size shoes.  I think I cried in the floor of her closet on three different occasions.  She just smiled and continued to  give shoes, clothes, purses, jewelry, you name it, she donated it to the Giving Boutique! Every item sold at the Giving Boutique helps fund our community projects.

Mary Harvey is giving people the opportunity to fill her shoes and judging from her personality and her giving heart, that will be difficult to do.  The doors of The Giving Boutique have opened 300% all because Mary Harvey decided to Make it Happen.  What are you going to do?  Join the movement.  Give something, donate today. To purchase designer shoes  like  Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Jimmy Choo and many more visit The Giving Boutique located at 3100 Independence #217, Plano, Texas.
